Works
Manage your projects on the My Works page — create works with the wizard, filter and sort, change statuses, use the Trash, and edit work-level defaults.
My Works (/works) is the CMS home screen. Every interactive graphic novel you author is a work — a self-contained project with its own chapters, assets, characters, translations, and settings.
Creating a work
Click Create New Work to open the four-step wizard:
Basic Info
Enter the Work Title and the URL Slug (lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens; auto-generated from the title). The wizard checks slug availability live — you'll see Available or Already taken.
Optionally pick a starter template (Webcomic, Branching Novel, All-Ages Story, Graphic Novel) to pre-fill languages, age rating, tags, and page formats — you can still adjust everything in the next steps.
Languages
Choose the Default Language and tick any Additional Languages. The list is grouped by region and searchable; Select all and Clear help with large selections. You can add or remove languages later in the Localization Workshop.
Page Formats
Pick every page format — screen or print shape — the work targets: from Mobile portrait and Tablet portrait through Desktop, Big screen, and Square to the print and video shapes (A4, US Letter, Video 16:9, Flex landscape). Pages are laid out separately per format, so select only what you actually plan to design for.
One selected card is badged Default — that format is used for previews and exports. The first format you select becomes the default automatically; Make default on any other selected card changes it, and the default itself cannot be deselected. You can add or remove formats later in Work Properties → Output.
Details
Pick an Age Rating — Everyone (all ages), Teen (13+), Mature (17+), or Adult (18+) — and add optional Tags (press Enter, comma, or Add). Tick Start with a first chapter to have "Chapter 1" created with an empty Page 1 in every selected format, so the editor isn't empty in any of them. Click Create Work.
If you close the wizard halfway, your input is kept as a draft — next time you'll see a Resume where you left off? banner with Resume and Discard.
You can also start from existing material instead of a blank work: Import a PanelWave JSON file, Import Archive to restore a complete work archive with all its media (see Import), Import Script to turn a Fountain screenplay into a work with AI-suggested panels and speech bubbles (see Script Import), or Import Pages to have AI split finished page images into panels (see Page Import).
Browsing and filtering
The list supports:
- Search by title, slug, or work ID.
- Status filter: All, Draft, Review, Published, Archived.
- Sort by Last Updated (default), Date Created, or Title, with an ascending/descending toggle.
- Grid or list view toggle.
- Two view tabs: Works (active) and Trash.
Each work card shows the whole cover at its own aspect ratio (portrait covers make taller cards; the list view keeps a small cropped thumbnail), a color-coded status badge, creators, chapter/panel/character/language counts, an artwork-progress bar (panels with artwork vs. total), last-updated time, and who last edited it. Click a card (or the pencil button) to open the work in the editor; middle-click opens it in a new tab.
Work statuses
A work is always in one of four statuses, changeable directly from the dropdown on each card:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Work in progress |
| Review | Ready for internal review |
| Published | Live for readers (see Publishing) |
| Archived | Kept, but out of the way |
The card menu
The ⋮ More actions button on a card opens a menu with quick jumps into the work — Editor, Open in new tab, Characters, Extras, Graph Editor, Preview, Validation, Analytics — plus Properties (see below) and Move to Trash.
Bulk actions
Tick the checkbox on one or more cards (or Select all) to reveal the bulk action bar:
- Move to Trash — trash all selected works.
- Set status — change the status of all selected works at once.
- Export — queue a bulk export in PDF, PPT, Video, or Archive (.zip) format (see Export).
In the Trash view, the bulk bar offers Restore and Delete permanently instead.
Trash, restoring, and deleting
Move to Trash never deletes anything immediately. Switch to the Trash tab to Restore works or delete them for good. Permanent deletion opens a confirmation dialog — Delete Work Permanently? — because it removes all chapters, panels, assets, and data and cannot be undone. The work's files (artwork, audio, video and their generated variants) are removed from storage in a nightly cleanup 7 days after the deletion; files another work still uses — for example a portrait shared through the team character library — are kept.
Work Properties — work-level settings and defaults
Open Properties from the card menu, from the work node's context menu in the editor's structure tree, or press Ctrl+, inside the editor. The Work Properties dialog has six tabs:
Metadata
Localized Name and Description (the fields offer the work's own languages; the Name is the work's title, so renaming it here changes the published title and the title in the Localization Workshop), Series Name and Issue / Episode Number, a Cover Image picker (choose from the work's uploaded image assets; the preview shows the whole cover, uncropped), Creators, and publishing fields: Publisher, Release Date, Age Rating, Tags / Genres, Copyright, and License.
Typography
Work-wide visual defaults:
- Default Font and Default Font Size, plus the Default Page Background Color.
- Speech Balloon Style (Work Default) — the balloon configurator with live preview. This is the base style for every speech bubble in the work; characters, presets and individual bubbles can override it (styles cascade: work default → character override → balloon preset → per-bubble override).
- Balloon Presets — named balloon styles (caption, voice-over, shout, …) that a bubble picks in the Speech inspector. Add one by name, style it with the same configurator, delete it with the bin icon. See Balloon presets.
- Panel Border Style (color, thickness, solid/dashed/none) and the Gutter Width between panels. The gutter is also the spacing Arrange by Artwork leaves between panels.
Saving Work Properties keeps every typography setting this tab doesn't show, such as the text-style presets of an imported manifest.
Localization
The Default Locale, the set of Supported Locales, and the Reading Direction. These are the same locales managed in the Localization Workshop — a change in either place shows up in the other.
Locales are full BCP-47 codes shown with their names — English (US) (en-US), German (de-DE) — the same codes the workshop, the editor, and the published manifest use. The list offers the work's own locales (default first) plus the shared locale catalogue. The localized Name and Description on the Metadata tab are stored under these codes too. Works that were saved with bare language codes (en, de) before 2026-09-25 have been converted to the work's matching locale (or the catalogue default for that language), so nothing needs re-entering.
The number of supported locales is capped by your plan; the default locale must be one of the supported ones.
Audio/Visual
Default Ambient, SFX, and Voice volume levels, and the default panel Transition Effect and Transition Duration.
Output
The set of Supported Page Formats and which of them is the Default:
- Every supported format appears in the editor's format switcher, and each format keeps its own set of page layouts.
- One format is badged Default — it is used for previews and exports and cannot be removed; click Make default on another supported format first.
- Adding a format asks whether to also create an empty first page in the new format for each chapter, so the editor isn't empty there. Chapters that already have pages in that format are skipped.
- Removing a format that still has pages shows a warning first: the pages are kept, but no longer shown in the editor or included in exports until you re-add the format. Nothing is deleted.
Works created before supported formats existed have no stored selection — they support all formats until you save an explicit list here.
Video Defaults
Defaults applied to new video layers (view mode, start mode, Muted by default) unless overridden per layer — see Video Panels.
Click Save Properties to apply. Values outside their allowed range (for example a font size outside 8–72, a gutter above 50, or a transition longer than 5 seconds) are rejected with a list of what to correct. On a read-only work the dialog can be opened but not saved.
