Getting StartedAccount & Team

Account & Team

Sign up and sign in to the PanelWave CMS, manage your profile, security, and sessions, and collaborate with team members and roles.

Creating an account

On the Create your account page (/register) enter your Full Name, Email Address, and a Password (at least 8 characters — a strength meter gives live feedback), confirm the password, and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Click Create Account.

Already registered? Use the Sign in link at the bottom of the card.

A new account gets its own personal team. If you sign up from a team invitation, you join the inviting team instead, and no personal team is created.

Signing in

The Sign in to your account page (/login) asks for your email and password.

  • Keep me signed in keeps your session alive across browser restarts.
  • Forgot password? starts a reset flow: you receive an email with a link to set a new password.
  • A caps-lock warning appears while typing your password if Caps Lock is on.

If two-factor authentication is enabled on your account, a second step asks for the Authentication code — the 6-digit code from your authenticator app, or one of your recovery codes (XXXX-XXXX format). The challenge expires after 5 minutes; use Back to password to start over.

Profile settings

Open the user menu (top right) and choose Profile to reach Profile Settings.

Profile information

Your Full Name, Location, Website, and Bio are always editable — type into the fields directly. As soon as something has changed, Save Changes and Cancel appear; Cancel restores the saved values.

  • Avatar — Change avatar uploads a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image; it is cropped to a square and resized automatically. Remove deletes it (your initials are shown instead).
  • Email Address — changing your email is a verified flow. Click Change…, enter the New email address and your Current password, then Send confirmation link. Your current address stays active until you confirm the link sent to the new address; a Pending verification banner shows the pending address and lets you Cancel the change.

Password

Click Change Password, enter your Current Password, a New Password (at least 8 characters), and the confirmation. Tick Sign out all other sessions to revoke every other device at the same time. A password change also revokes all your access tokens and connected apps.

Two-factor authentication

The Two-factor authentication card lets you require a 6-digit authenticator code (TOTP) in addition to your password:

Start setup

Click Set up two-factor authentication and confirm your password.

Add the key to your authenticator app

The CMS shows a Secret key and an otpauth link for your authenticator app. Enter the 6-digit code from the app and click Verify & enable.

Save your recovery codes

Recovery codes are shown only once. Each code signs you in one time if you lose the authenticator. Use Copy all, store them safely, then confirm with I saved them — done.

To turn it off, click Disable… and confirm your password — this also invalidates your recovery codes.

Active sessions

The Active sessions card lists devices signed in to your account with browser, last-active time, IP address, and sign-in time. The current device is marked This device. The card shows the 10 most recent sessions (this device always among them); Show all N sessions expands the full list. Click Sign out on any other session to revoke it, or Sign out all other sessions to revoke everything except the current one.

Connected apps & access tokens

The Connected apps & access tokens card lists the AI assistants you connected by signing in (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, …) and your personal access tokens for the local bridge and scripts. Create tokens, Disconnect apps and Revoke tokens here. See Access Tokens & Connected Apps.

Preferences

Preferences are saved to your account and follow you across devices:

  • Theme — System, Light, Dark, or High Contrast (a maximum-legibility palette in both the app and the editor).
  • Default editing language — preselected as the target language when you open the Localization Workshop.
  • Email notifications — comments & mentions on your works, and product news & updates.

Account information and danger zone

Account Information shows your user ID, creation date, role, and team count. The Danger Zone offers:

  • Export my data — downloads your profile, preferences, team memberships, and your teams' works as JSON.
  • Deactivate account — signs you out and blocks future sign-ins. Type the confirmation keyword to enable the button. Your content is retained; contact support to reactivate.
  • Delete account permanently — type DELETE to enable the Delete my account button. Your account is deactivated immediately, all sessions are signed out, and after a 30-day grace period it is permanently deleted (anonymized). Works of teams where you are the only member are moved to the trash.

Deletion cannot be undone after the grace period. Within the 30 days, contact support to cancel the pending deletion and restore your account. If you are the sole owner of a team that has other members, transfer ownership first — the same guard applies as for deactivation.

Data retention

Housekeeping runs automatically in the background: sessions that expired or were revoked disappear from the Active sessions history after 90 days, and raw reading events behind the analytics dashboard are deleted after 24 months (the aggregated daily metrics remain).

Teams and roles

Works belong to teams. Open the user menu and choose Team to manage them. The page lists your teams in a sidebar; select one to see its members.

Team name and public address

Owners and admins can rename a team with the pencil (Rename team) next to its name — up to 100 characters. Team names are labels, not unique, so personal teams that all start as "Your Name's Team" can be told apart.

Below the name, Public address shows the first part of your reader links (read.panelwave.org/your-team/…). Owners and admins set it with Edit: lowercase letters, digits and hyphens. You need it before you can publish a work publicly; see Your public address.

Roles

RolePermissions
OwnerFull control, including granting the Admin role
AdminCan manage team and settings
EditorCan edit content
ViewerCan view content only

Owners and admins can change a member's role with the role dropdown in the members table, or remove members. Only an owner can grant the Admin role, and the owner's own role cannot be changed from this table. If a change is refused, the page shows the reason.

Inviting members

Click Invite Member, enter an Email Address, and pick a Role. Tick Invite several people at once for bulk mode — paste addresses (one per line, or comma/semicolon separated) or Upload CSV; everyone gets the role you select.

PanelWave emails each invitee an Accept invitation link. The confirmation says whether the email went out. If it couldn't be sent, copy the link from the pending invitation and pass it on yourself.

Outstanding invitations appear under Pending Invitations, where you can Copy link, Resend (emails a fresh link with a new expiry), or Revoke.

What the invitee sees when they open the link:

  • They already have an account: the sign-in page says "<team> invited you as <role>" with their email filled in. After signing in, the invitation is accepted and the team appears in their team list.
  • They are new to PanelWave: they go straight to Create your account, with the same note and their email filled in. After signing up they are a member of your team right away, with the invited role. No personal team is created for them.

An invitation can only be accepted with the email address it was sent to.

Payouts & payments

Teams that sell content connect a Stripe merchant account from the Payouts & payments card (Set up payouts with Stripe opens Stripe's hosted onboarding). This is required before products can be sold — see Monetization.

The user menu

The avatar button in the top-right corner of every screen opens a menu with Profile, Exports (the list of your export jobs — see Export), Team, a Dark/Light Mode toggle, a Condensed/Regular Font toggle, Keyboard Shortcuts, Documentation (opens this site in a new tab), and Logout.
